The first season of Serial showed how well true crime and podcasting could work together to tell a compelling narrative. And many, many podcasts since have tried to duplicate that success. Some work better than others. These are the five true crime podcasts that I believe are worth your time and worth mentioning in the same breathe as Serial.
For me, podcasts are one of the best things about the Internet. It’s all the great stories, new voices and surprising things you learn without all the vile comments or venal showmanship. The best ones are great voices piped into your head making you feel smarter, better informed, making you laugh or think differently. And if you zone out, you can just rewind and listen again.
I can’t remember the last time I listened to FM radio. I’ve made the switch almost exclusively to listening to podcasts if I’m in the car or walking Dash. I listen to most at 1.5x or 2x speed. I go through a lot of podcasts. These are the 5 shows that I listened to the most in 2017. They pretty accurately reflect my interests (crime, mysteries and writing) and goals (side hustles) this year.
