Scenes from Saturday + Soles & Solos

“An idea arises spontaneously, just like any other thought… a concept is built deliberately through a series of choices and constraints.” Penny Lane was talking about documentaries but I thought this was one of the better descriptions of the realites of writing a book. You have the what-if idea, but then the book eventually develops through the choices after that initial spark.

I officially kick-off Max #9 next week. I’ve got the idea. We’ll see how the concept develops.

A very busy weekend started with Jazz Night on Friday at the high school and kept on rolling into Saturday with an early morning airport drop-off for the parents as they headed to Florida for a few weeks of consistently warm temperatures (we hope).

TF Green in Rhode Island is still so much easier than dealing with tangle and complexity of Logan.

Domino was, as always, a happy camper out in the woods. And we were happy he didn’t dig up any other coyote leftovers this time. Just a nice, normal morning walk to take that energetic edge off.

I somehow managed to pick our busiest weekend of the year so far to try to cram in my first road race in awhile.

Each year, I try to run a 10k and keep the time under my age. It’s a nice, modest goal with a sliding scale.

It was a great day for a run and I was happy to support both New Life and the Soles, even if I haven’t been getting out to run as consistently.

I went with the classic Soles “frying pan” shirt and I made my goal, just getting in under 45 minutes for a top 10 finish.

Meanwhile, out in Worcester, Ally had her final dance competition of the season. Michelle took the early shift, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Ally’s solo and first group dance.

We then met up for some pizza for dinner.

Worcester, in my opinion, remains a slightly underrated pizza city.

Finally, I returned to the dance comp for the evening session (6 p.m. to 11 p.m.), one more group dance and awards session to wrap it all up.

Aging up into a new category brought a lot of learning opportunities for Ally this year and I’m excited to see what she does next, but right now, I’m excited for a little time off. Those comps are loud, long, and dramatic. Sort of kryptonite for an introvert. And hell on the ear drums.

The buys weekend continues with a drive north again on Sunday for Cecilia and the high school concert band’s MICCA music showcase in Groton. The new(ish) concert hall there is incredible. Have a great Sunday!
