I’m back. I figured I might regret not capturing Cecilia’s senior year after years of posts, so I’ll do my best, but give myself some grace, too. The idea is to keep it simple, capture our everyday Saturday and not put any pressure on myself to come up with some grand life or parenting lesson. Just being there, being present, being available is enough.
This weekend Cecilia and I took a quick trip down to Nashville to visit some schools.
We flew in late Thursday and did two campus tours on Friday.
I might have blacked out during the second one. Not due to the cost of attendance part of the presentation, I’m numb to that now. More because it was blisteringly hot.
Overall, it was a successful trip. We saw more schools and gathered more comparison data. One month left until early apps are done and dusted.
Friday night we hit up some BBQ and tried not to get run over by the deluge of Eagle fans in town for the game on Sunday.
Saturday morning dawned… hot. I don’t think it got below 80 overnight.
That did not keep Nashville from getting out running. Ce and I did some miles along the river and were pleasantly surprised by the amount of runners out.

Also… this guy was out in full black wool suit and top hat. Not sure if he was going to work at a historical venue or this is just Nashville sometimes.

After we finally stopped sweating, we showered, changed and headed back out for more sweating but also biscuits and gravy and other brunch goodies, including a cinnamon cream topping for pancakes that I had to refrain from drinking straight from the bottle.

Our impression, after the heat and the constant “Go, Birds” chirping for the Eagles, was that downtown Nashville, at least, likes to party. These mobile bars were sort of cute Friday night.
A little more annoying at 10:30 in the morning.

Our flight wasn’t until 4 pm, so after fueling up on carbs and syrup, we hit up the Country Music Hall of Fame.

The Dolly exhibit was absolutely mobbed and we didn’t have time to wait, but I really enjoyed the Muscle Shoals section.

Cecilia was really intriguied by Elvis’s tricked out Caddy.

We sent Michelle many photos of Taylor Swift memorabilia. She was inducted this past year.

Overall, we both enjoyed the museum despite not knowing a whole lot about country music.
It was well laid out and gave you good sense of the different eras and personalities.
It probably could have used a bit more interactivity, but it’s a minor quibble.

Dolly’s plaque hasn’t been updated yet.

Two things on my list if we ever go back to the city.
One, explore the different neighborhoods. The city is growing very fast and I definitely had the sense that we were only really seeing the main tourist drag. There just wasn’t time to really get out and explore much more. Typically, we walk a lot more but did I mention the heat?
Second, I’m taking the Hatch Show Print tour. Definitely felt a kinship with the people browsing the gift shop, but I just could not get Cecilia excited enough about print making or fonts.

With that, we packed up and hit the road home.
Another positive, Nashville airport is pretty close to the city and it’s a direct flight to Boston.

Enjoy your Sunday!
